Clubs in Vietnam have reportedly become so taken with Martin Audio sound systems that some believe it has become an automatic passport for filling their venues.

One such nightspot, the 900-capacity Barocco Club in Ho Chi Minh City, is living proof of that.

After suffering a serious fire back in May this year, the club decided to make a clean start by commissioning Duc Proaudio Co. Ltd - the official distributor of Martin Audio in Vietnam - to redesign the entire sound system and rev up its essentially electronic music mix.

Duc Proaudio Co. Ltd is widely experienced in club sound systems and over the years has achieved tremendous success - particularly with Martin Audio systems. The Barocco Club refit had to be carried out on a tight time scale as it was scheduled to reopen just 90 days after the fire. And of these, only 65 days were available for the design and installation of the entire sound system.

The new system deployed includes 12 Blackline H3+ full range loudspeakers and 12 Blackline S218+ subwoofers. Amplifiers consist of six MA5.2K, two MA6.8Q, two MA2.8Q - with the DX2 dedicated signal processor.

The system is also integrated with Midas Venice U16 console, Klark Teknik SquareONE Dynamics Processor and DSP Xilica to handle signal for DJ monitor speakers.

Duc Proaudio Co. Ltd director, Pham Duy Duc, recalls that when the club originally caught fire, club owner Chau Nhut Do had immediately contacted him to work on the new system. 'Mr. Do has been doing business in the entertainment industry for many years,' he said. 'He understands the importance of choosing well-known international brands, even when the market is in a bad state economically. That's why our company was chosen to be the system designer.'

BARROCO EXTENDS VIETNAM'S LOVE FOR MARTIN AUDIO

Nineteen Club, Hanoi's hottest new club and bar, situated right in the centre of the Vietnamese capital, has set a standard for other clubs to emulate, thanks to its Martin Audio sound system.

Venue owner, Vu Anh Phong, first decided to visit Ho Chi Minh city in the south, in order to learn the reason behind the phenomenon success of some of the more famous clubs. He immediately noticed that a common factor was Martin Audio sound systems that appeared to attract a clientele seeking a higher grade of entertainment. 'The fact that Martin Audio contributes to these clubs' dramatic success, with the considerable number of guests visiting every night, was evident,' he said.

Vu Anh Phong contacted Pham Duy Duc, director of well known club installers Duc Proaudio Company, who provided a proposal, basing his design on Martin Audio components for Nineteen Club. It was no surprise that Mr Phong decided immediately to overhaul the entire existing sound system, deploying this solution.

The new system comprises 14 x Blackline F15+ full range loudspeakers and eight S218+ subwoofers, controlled by amplifiers consisting of four MA5.2K, four MA3.0 with a DX1.5 dedicated digital signal processor.

After five days of installation, Nineteen Club was ready to unveil its new audio system to the 500 capacity crowd, knowing that it would raise the temperature. 'I am absolutely satisfied with my decision to upgrade the sound system and can now feel the true power of Martin Audio,' summarised Vu Anh Phong.

SEDUCTION OF MARTIN AUDIO IMPACTS ON NINETEEN CLUB

Martin Audio CDD loudspeakers have been installed in the Trung Chanh Catholic Church in Vietnam. The parish church resides in the Hoc Mon diocese - a district of Ho Chi Minh City.

The church itself was founded in 1954 and today has over 6,000 catholic congregants, organising many religious activities every year.

With upwards of 1,000 people typically attending each of the Masses, the requirement for higher performance sound is essential. After receiving the go-ahead from the Bishop and parish pastoral council, Mr.Duc Dinh, a technician from Duc ProAudio specified a Martin Audio CDD10Wloudspeakers system - the first time Martin Audio loudspeakers have been installed in a Vietnamese parish church.

This structure of the building is wide and long, with a vaulted ceiling. Therefore, it was decided to space 12 CDD10W loudspeakers evenly along the wall, with a further pair acting as monitors on the altar area. All loudspeakers are packaged with two Martin Audio MA5.0Q amplifiers and two DX0.5dedicated signal processors.

Because of the wide dispersion, the CDD loudspeakers can effortlessly reach all the seating areas with evenly distributed sound to boost intelligibility. 'In fact we can hear the sound perfectly clearly anywhere in the church,' confirmed both the clergy and the Bishop.

MARTIN AUDIO CDD DEBUTS IN VIETNAM CATHOLIC CHURCH

Situated at the Starcity Halong Bay Hotel, H Club has not only revived the golden age of nightlife in Vietnam, but has also raised the standard of performance and production to a new level. It follows the business philosophy of enhancing the customer experience by providing the latest technology and advanced architectural design, construction and general services.

To reach this goal a Martin Audio THV three-way biamp loudspeaker system—purpose-designed for advanced nightclub performance—was detailed as the centrepiece of a high specification package provided by Duc Proaudio, Martin Audio’s Vietnamese distributor.

Halong Bay is widely considered to be one of the seven wonders of the world. Located in the middle of the Bai Chay tourist centre, H Club was been built on an area of 4000sq.m and has a capacity of 1200 people.

With more than 10 years’ experience, the investor, Mr Bui Minh Hong has made an enormous contribution to the nightlife tapestry with venues such as Ha Long Club, New Ha Long Club, Ha Long View KTV, Phantom Karaoke. In putting together his operational team for this latest venture, Mr. Hong said, “If you come to Ha Long and don’t visit H Club, we would consider it as not coming to Ha Long Bay at all.” A visit to H Club, he says, is required to fully appreciate how this level of investment has taken the clubbing experience to a new height.

The investor selected Duc Proaudio, as the audio design consultants and installation contractors.Mr Pham Duy Duc, Director of Duc Proaudio, had no hesitation in recommending Martin Audio. “If you are a serious player then you will have heard the superior sound of Martin Audio systems, as it is a brand name trusted by leading bars and clubs in Vietnam and around the world. Typical names using Martin Audio sound systems, supplied by Duc Proaudio are Gold 2 Club, Canalis Club, Barroco Club, Deluxe 030 Club, Kashso Club, XingXing Club and Gaia Lounge in Hanoi.”

“But,” he continues, “the sound system required at H Club takes this to a completely different level.” And by this he was referring to the new THV. “These loudspeakers were developed last year to replace the existing H3+series in Vietnam.”

This high-performance, high bandwidth fully horn-loaded system contains a Hybrid® 15” LF with reflex loaded 4” voice coil and ‘Phase Ball’ loaded midrange. Driven by a 10” midrange driver, it maintains the constant directivity characteristics of the horn at the upper end of its range. The 70° x 40° HF section features a 1” neodymium exit compression driver, with Kapton diaphragm for extended HF performance.

According to Mr. Duc, this creates a clear, high SPL sound with its own distinct signature. “The sound feels lighter and those who come to H Club will definitely form a strong impression—especially with the SXH218 subwoofer, which is set up based on the latest Martin Audio Subwoofer Array Arc Delay Calculator software. This creates bass uniformity throughout every position in the club, which really comes alive.”

To achieve this they specified 16 x THV enclosures and 16 SXH218 subs, with a further 16 CDD15B as speaker delays.

These are powered and processed by Martin Audio MA2.0 and MA5.2K amplifiers, with an iK42 running Dante from a DiGiCo SD11 mixer.

The DJ monitor system also features four CDD-LIVE 12 and four SXP 118 subs.

Summing up the installation Mr Pham Xuan Chien, General Manager of H Club, said, “There are only two places where you need to experience a sound system at this level: one is at festivals and stadiums, the other is nightclubs. I believe we have achieved this here.”

H CLUB REVIVES GOLDEN AGE OF VIETNAM NIGHTCLUBS WITH MARTIN AUDIO

Situated in Ho Chi Minh City’s central entertainment area of District 1, the Arena Mix lounge is part of the high-end Khe Group businesses, founded by Tong Dong Khue.

After he finished studying in Singapore, Mr. Tong Dong returned to Vietnam to invest in the entertainment industry in general, and nightlife in particular. Arena Mix set out to focus on the customer experience, from food and drink, to quality sound.

To ensure an optimum audio solution Duc Proaudio (Martin Audio’s distribution partner in Vietnam), was chosen as the audio design consultant and installation contractor—masterminded by company director, Pham Duy Duc.

Martin Audio’s CDD series proved a popular choice, and Duc Proaudio specified 14 CDD15 full-range loudspeakers and four SX218 subwoofers for the main DJ room. Amplifiers consisted of iK42 Dante-compatible devices and VIA5004, with Martin Audio’s dedicated DX0.5 dedicated signal processors managing the system.

The DJ set-up included a Pioneer DJM-900NXS2 mixer, two DJ CDJ-2000NX2 players and a pair of ultra-compact, self-powered Martin Audio CDD-LIVE 8 reference monitors, along with the DX0.5 processor.

However, the installers were presented with a challenge in optimising the sound. As the venue’s interior design uses mainly LED, decorative lighting and reflective surfaces, the sound space was naturally both resonant and distorted, with the LF bass response neither tight nor clean, according to Pham Duy Duc.

To overcome these acoustics challenges, Duc Proaudio recommended that the investor contact specialists, HB Acoustic, to advise on acoustic treatment to improve the sound in the listening space. By adding diffuser and absorption materials in the main room, excessive reverberation was drastically reduced and the reflections controlled, along with the echo. In addition, the low frequency sub-bass is now tighter and the sound intelligibility greatly improved.

“More importantly,” Mr. Pham continued, “we had to try and retain the original interior design and decoration of Arena Mix. But this showed the effectiveness when the investor combines a high-performance sound system with a professional acoustic consultant.

“Both the investors and shareholders were surprised and delighted with the improved sound quality, which has enabled customers to enjoy the true value of high-performance sound systems.”
